By mere coincidence, we were in the area and happened upon the Lake Vermilion Resort Association's annual Lake Vermillion Antique and Classic Boat Show, held Sunday, Sept. 3 at The Landing Restaurant, north of Cook, MN.

It was a beautiful day to wander along the docks and admire the boats. Among the many wooden boats , a lone aluminum boat shone brightly. . .a 1956 12' Crestliner Commander restored by Mark Tompkins of Forest Lake, MN! Mark's boat is a great restoration with a unique custom look. His green paint job, custom seats and custom windshield offer some great ideas for Crestliner restorers.

Mark also displayed a history of his restoration with photos and some information on his model. We were fortunate to meet Mark and get permission to publish photos. He credited this site and the forum for helping him with his project. Thanks Mark, great boat and nice to meet you!!

Not only was it fun to see a Crestliner in the show, but also a great opportunity to view other vintage boats, mostly wooden Chris-Crafts. We hope to see more Crestliners in future boat shows and encourage everyone to visit this show next year!
